President Donald Trump on Thursday hired a new architect to lead the next phase of the White House ballroom project.

Before Gehry became an architectural icon, he primarily designed residential buildings. In the 1970s, he lived in this Santa Monica residence with his wife, Berta. Though they initially bought a 1920s Dutch Colonial home, Gehry gave the property his unique twist with chainlink and raw plywood.

World-renowned Canadian-American architect and designer Frank Gehry has died at the age of 96 after a short respiratory illness.
